LONDON Dustin Brown Kings Jersey , Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Spain has emerged as the favourite destination for British brides-to-be partying with girlfriends as they spend their final days as single women.
Hen parties have become a growing money spinner in recent years for major cities in Britain and beyond, seen as a boost for hotels, bars and restaurants.
The days of grooms ending their days as singletons with a stag party goes back hundreds of years to the days of King Henry VIII.
But in a top-10 list published on Friday by stag and hen party organisers, called Last Night of Freedom, the Spanish fun resort of Marbella was in top spot for British brides, followed by Barcelona.
The Northern English city of Newcastle was in third place, followed by London with the Irish capital, Dublin in fifth spot.
Last Night of Freedom organises hen and stag trips to over 60 locations around the world, as far away as Las Vegas and most mainland European cities.
Although the reign of King Henry VIII is credited with popularising stag parties in Britain for grooms and their male friends, historians say the tradition goes back even further.
Some think it may have started as early as the 5th century B.C. when ancient Spartans held banquets in the groom's honor to celebrate his last night as a single man.
Hen parties in Britain got off to a slow start in the so-called swinging sixities, but it would take the final years of the 20th century before the trend really caught on, fuelled by the growing importance of sexual equality between male and female.
These days participants in hen parties often have a dress code, all wearing the same outfits with a sash around the bridge-tobe to highlight she is the star of the party.
Some hold all-girl banquets, hiring scantily dressed male butlers to serve the food.
Last Night of Freedom was established in Britain in 1999 to help grooms and brides-to-be end their days as singles in a memorable way. Until now the agency has organised over 20,000 stag and hen party weekends.
Other cities in the top 10 are Edinburgh in sixth spot, followed by Liverpool, Bristol, Brighton and Manchester in 10th place.
Today the number of hen parties taking places across Britain and beyond rivals the number of grooms holding stag parties. It seems in the days before that long walk up the aisle to pledge those marriage vows, there is now true equality between brides and grooms, or rather hens and stags.

NEW DELHI, March 13 (Xinhua) -- At least five children were killed and five others went missing Sunday after a boat carrying 13 children capsized in eastern Indian state of Bihar, officials said.
The boat capsized in the shallow waters near Kumhar Sang village in Begusarai district, about 121 km east of Patna city, the capital of Bihar.
""Five minors were today drowned when a boat carrying 13 children capsized in the Sigraila chaur in Kumhar Sang village here,"" a police official posted in the district said. ""Three children swam to safety and so far five bodies have been fished out.""
India's official broadcaster, All India Radio (AIR), said the authorities have pressed divers into service to find out the missing five children.
According to the state broadcaster, 13 village children had gone for boating as part of recreation in the water body when the mishap occurred.
Last week two people were killed and five went missing after an overloaded boat carrying around 40 people capsized in a river in Odisha state.

ARUSHA， Tanzania， April 15 (Xinhua) -- Police have stepped up their crackdown operation on marijuana farming and business in northern Tanzania's region of Arusha.
The operation came at a time when the UN Report lists Tanzania as the second-largest marijuana producer in Africa after South Africa.
Arusha Regional Police Commander， Charles Mkumbo said on Friday that the operation will target marijuana and khat farming and the entire trade syndicate.
Arusha is one of the key regions for marijuana farming as most of the illicit drug is being produced on the slopes of Mount Meru - the second tallest mountain in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro.
""We are aware that Arusha is the leading regions for producing marijuana， which is produced in rough terrain on the slopes of Mount Meru...in this operation we're collaborating with the Tanzania's anti-illicit drug unit and other security agencies，"" the regional police chief said.
He cited some of the notorious areas for marijuana farming as Kisimiri and Mwandeti villages in Arumeru District， which is inhabited by a combination of Maasai， and Meru ethnic groups.
""These are the very notorious area for bhang farming，""he said.
Records show that the area has been leading for marijuana farming for more than 15 years as the illegal farming venture becomes the mainstay of the economy for some remote villages north-west of Arusha.
Mkumbo added that police were getting hard time to control farming in those areas because most of the farms are located in mountainous areas， making very difficult to reach there.
Salum Swalehe is one of the Arusha city residents， who said that farmers and dealers of marijuana have been changing tactics every day so that they remain free from the hands of law-enforcers.
""This makes difficult to end the illegal business，"" he said， revealing that in August every year is the main harvest season of marijuana， which offers farmers good cash compared to any other farming ventures.
Tenths of marijuana bales are daily brought down from Mount Meru by foot or loaded on donkeys and motorcycles using a route straddling a canyon and is deposited at a secret location near Oldonyo Sambu village.
Women are increasingly being involved in transporting bales of Marijuana while men scout the routes to make sure that they do not meet law enforcing officers.
